What is a Contract and why is it Made?

As long as there has been trade on this earth, there have been dishonest people. Everyone has heard about the person with limited knowledge, but high trust, being swindled. For this reason, contracts are typically made by a drafting party to protect themselves. In a typical transaction, it is the party that first pays for an item or service, or part of it, who proposes a contract. Basically, the contract is an assurance that if I pay an advance on a good or service, or sell an item on credit, I have remedies in case the other party doesn’t pay.

This course will explain why contracts are more than just a piece of paper that you sign after you’ve come to an understanding with your buyer.
